Virtual World

Explore how augmented and virtual realities can better our world.

What if you could instantly teleport yourself to a tropical beach? Face and conquer your greatest fear? Or even control a robot on the other side of the world? All of these things are possible (well, kind of) with virtual reality.

Students will explore the vast applications of virtual and augmented reality technologies; from their commercial uses in personal entertainment, to their powerful, social applications giving marginalized and at-risk communities access to mental health care, new skills, and much needed services. And yes… we’ll get to play around with some AR and VR too.

+ Pairs well with...

If you’re looking for an engaging way to kick things off, we recommend attaching this module to either the MENTAL or SWARM Exhibition Tours. How are leading technologists and health professionals collaborating to address mental health through augmented and virtual reality? Or how is virtual reality helping us to better understand how insects fly and interact?

Want to extend the learning? Try adding our DIY VR module so that your students can create, test and take away their own VR headset. Or throw in a Make it Work design sprint, or App of the Future app development module, and let your students imagine where we might take the VR of tomorrow.
