SCIENCE GALLERY AT THE UNIVERSITY OF MELBOURNE

Exploring the collision of art and science Science Gallery Melbourne is located in Melbourne Connect, the University of Melbourne's hub for innovation. We’re proud to be part of the International Science Gallery Network, pioneered by Trinity College Dublin and connecting creative thinkers worldwide.

With free entry, we welcome everyone to explore, question, and imagine. Through our exhibitions, events, learning initiatives, and research, we’re not just sharing knowledge — we’re shaping the next generation of science and technology trailblazers. This is a space to challenge ideas, experiment boldly, and ask: what’s next?

As part of a global network of galleries linked to leading universities, we bring researchers, academics, and students into conversations with artists, creatives and our visitors. Together, we’re rethinking possibilities and inspiring new collaborations that break boundaries and shift how we see the world.

OUR MISSION

Science Gallery Melbourne aims to involve, inspire and transform curious minds through art and science.

THE NETWORK

The Science Gallery Network is an international ecosystem of leading universities that drives collaboration, transforms communities, and empowers young people through art-science experimentation. The seven global nodes follow Science Gallery’s internationally acclaimed approach that helps develop creative, agile thinkers and doers for the 21st century.

WHAT WE DO

Bringing science, art, technology and design together, Science Gallery Melbourne delivers unique, transdisciplinary exhibitions, events and educational programs that engage thousands of inquiring minds every year in connective, participative, and surprising ways.

An advisory group of young and curious people called Sci Curious bring us their pressing questions about the world. These are the sparks of ideas that help to inform and shape the themes we explore. Guiding the development of themes into an exhibition program, the Leonardo Group includes exceptional people drawn from the local creative community of scientists, artists, engineers, technologists, media and entrepreneurs who form our 'brains trust'.

Science Gallery is a place where the usual rules don’t apply, where radical experimentation can take place and where the collision of different ideas and perspectives can produce ground-breaking innovations. Our Open Call process allows anyone, from any discipline, from all over the world, to submit their ideas that respond to our exhibition themes. This makes each exhibition a truly unique, multidisciplinary and diverse collection of ideas.

STEM CENTRE OF EXCELLENCE

Science Gallery Melbourne’s STEM Centre of Excellence empowers young people with 21st-century skills through innovative STEAM programs co-designed with 25 local schools. In partnership with the University of Melbourne and the Victorian Government’s Department of Education, these programs blend science and creativity, and explore design thinking. Based in Melbourne Connect, students engage with industry, First Nations STEM initiatives, and a vibrant tertiary environment.
