March Friday Night Social

  • Science Gallery Melbourne The University of Melbourne Parkville, VIC, 3010 Australia (map)

Kicking off the first of the Friday Night Social events into high gear, drag king superstar Justin Teliqure is curating a hot lineup of queer performance art that is going to get you hooting and tooting with excellent local talent. Expect drag, dance, circus and… unexpected delights. Bring your mum!

It’s also International Transgender Day of Visibility, so we’ll be decorating the event in blue, pink and white to celebrate! Performance art group Born In a Taxi are entertaining us with some high fashion zebras with a beastly twist and we are putting on a relaxed film screening of the seminal documentary ‘Paris Is Burning’ with English subtitles. We are also projecting the ethereal ‘Polyptych of Becoming’ by local legend Xanthie Dobbie.  Resident DJ extraordinaire DJ Gaydad will be spinning some great tunes. And the exhibition is open! AAAAAAAAGH! SO MANY GOOD THINGS!

Our Friday Night Socials are a series of FREE EVENTS for self-confessed science nerds and art lovers who love trying something new, meeting new people and getting weird. Our BREAK THE BINARIES events focus on LGBTQIA+ identities and experiences. All members of the community and allies are welcome.

Please note: A performance-art show in the Science Gallery Theatre (7pm start) will give voice to lived experiences of transgender and gender-diverse artists, which may include nudity and strong language as empowering creative expressions. Adult guidance for people under 18 years is recommended.
