How do scientists conceptualise and organise reality?

This work invites you behind the scenes and into the minds of scientists working at CERN. Oscillating between the theoretical and the experimental, you’re invited through a labyrinth of labs, studios, storerooms and workshops. The spaces may look familiar and unfamiliar all at once. Tools take on an ethereal quality, spinning slowly and methodically. The process of studying things outside of the human experience is ultimately limited by available technology. Listen to scientists reflect on their work and gain a unique insight into their methods. CERN is filled with people observing and detecting the fundamental workings of the universe to learn where we came from, and so much more.

What is the material nature of our world?

Semiconductor is UK artist duo Ruth Jarman and Joe Gerhardt. Over twenty-five years they have become known for an innovative body of work, which explores the material nature of our world and how we experience it through the lenses of science and technology.
