Can a Human, Insect and Smart Phone Communicate Through Dance?

Body/ Insect/ Machine is a video artwork-meets-experiment born from choreographer Prue Lang, artist Mathieu Briand, and a stick insect. In this Science Gallery panel, the trio are joined by Evolutionary Biology and Animal Behavior Professor, Mark Elgar, and broadcaster, Alicia Sometimes, for a discussion centered on communication across man-made and natural worlds through dance.

Through their movement experiment, Prue Lang and Mathieu Briand observe and manipulate the complex relationship between how technology moves compared with the instinctive and natural movements of insects within nature. Also, what it’s like to have a stick insect as a pet!
