In an era of misinformation and mass information, good science communication has never been so important – whether you are a scientist or someone who consumes news. Every minute, hundreds of hours of audio are uploaded to the internet from around the world – a quantity that is only increasing. Here, students will learn what makes for good science communication and then apply their skills to create accessible and engaging podcasts.

Students will start the day exploring and participating in thought-provoking discussions and activities as part of a facilitator-led tour of BREAK THE BINARIES. BREAK THE BINARIES presents a playful and kaleidoscopic view of genders, identity and their relationship with science and technology, creativity, culture, race and sexuality. Students will then participate in a science communication masterclass with top tips and activities to develop their skills. Working in teams, students will use their new skills to create and edit their very own podcast episode based on one of the works they explored in the exhibition. Alternatively, teachers can opt for students to create a podcast episode based on a current unit of study.

Key Themes: Science communication; podcasting; digital technologies; marketing; additional themes explored as part of the exhibition tour.
