The Egg

Marco Barotti

Are we growing too fast as a species?

How many people are alive right now? How many new babies are being born? The Egg is a kinetic sound sculpture that reflects on the impact of overpopulation. Driven by real time data generated by the World-o-meter; the world’s most comprehensive counter of all things human. Every birth recorded by the World-o-meter produces a bass frequency within the egg. Inaudible but powerful enough for the subwoofer to vibrate The Egg’s flexible structure. Come closer and watch as the ripples convey the superabundance of humanity.

Will we use all the planet’s resources?

Marco Barotti is a Berlin based media artist. After graduating from the Siena Jazz Academy he began merging sound with visual art. He is driven by a desire to invent a new artistic language based in a fictional, post-futurist era. In which kinetic sound structures can intervene in both natural and urban environments. His musical installations combine audio technologies, everyday objects and waste into beautiful moving sculptures triggered only by sound.
