What does the internet sound like?
Every minute, hundreds of hours of audio are uploaded to the internet from around the world – a quantity that is only increasing. Can we truly comprehend this amount of material? This immersive sound installation takes up this monumental task, drawing from the swirling sea of newly-uploaded sounds to create ever-shifting musical landscapes. By harvesting sounds from thousands of unknown contributors, and looking for their musical properties, the system organises the chosen fragments to compose a dynamic musical score. Step inside and listen to sounds from across the earth, a global composition that is woven from the ever-changing tapestry of people’s lives around the world.
How much content do you generate in a day?
Jones/Bulley (James Bulley and Daniel Jones) are an artist duo whose practice explores the boundaries of sculpture, music and composition. They are interested in exploring the systems and patterns of the world as ways of organising sound. This approach can illuminate our understanding of the world, with sound providing a platform for a deeper experience of our shared realities..
