Cyborgs, androids, automatons – in the realm of science fiction, the line between humans and machines has dissolved. When removed from its human context, the eye becomes the organic element of the machine. The bionic eye is the ultimate goal for researchers working on sight restoration for people who are blind. While current models have limited functionality, perhaps a cyborgian future is not that far off.

Jim Bond (UK) is a sculptor specialising in dynamic kinetic structures which combine programmable electronic control systems with motors to breathe life into delicate structures and forms. He is constantly seeking new ways of using movement, light and sound to create unique interactions with audiences.
