Science Gallery Melbourne embeds First Nations perspectives, practices and knowledge into everything we do. From schools workshops that use First Peoples knowledges to inform sustainable design practices to developing a framework that will enable SGM to begin decolonising its museological practices. This is a committed and sustained practice, undertaken in consultation with Traditional Owners and First Peoples who work across arts and science sectors.

We acknowledge Aboriginal people as our oldest continuing culture. We pay respects to Elders and we acknowledge their generosity in sharing knowledge. We work with pride and respect alongside our First Nations colleagues. We are grateful and optimistic about our journey.

Museums and Galleries play a role in documenting the past whilst ensuring the enduring role of culture and knowledge. We care deeply about the future, in shaping pathways and opportunities for students and young people, and we believe in the importance of First Nations peoples and knowledge in shaping this future.
