Mary Angley and Caithlin O’Loghlen

What does self-care mean to you?

Caithlin O’Loghlen is not social media famous. She has never hit the online-big-time for her self-care rituals. But she’s not letting that stop her on her quest to become the most famous wellness influencer on the internet.

During MENTAL she will spend two weeks living in Science Gallery, inhabiting a fake bedroom and pursuing her (potentially) impossible goal. Each day, she will create escalating content for YouTube, Instagram and TikTok . She will be joined by a series of guests, including self-care enthusiasts and mental health experts. Her progress can be watched live in the gallery or livestreamed via Twitch.

When she departs, the bedroom set will remain in the gallery along with all her video footage and images. Visitors are encouraged to create and upload content, leaving their own digital traces in the space.

Ultimately, this project will aim to uncover what it costs to create the image of perfect wellness.

When does the self-care industry help our mental health and when does it hinder it?
