Join us for an international student film screening followed by a Q&A.
Seven people from across the globe arrived in Melbourne as international students. Last spring, they switched on their cameras to tell their stories. These incredibly personal stories, each filmed in styles unique to the individuals, make up the body of this work.
The pandemic, university life, dreams and loneliness are just some of the themes expressed. Whether you’re currently an international student in Melbourne, a former international student, or someone who wants to understand, this work will likely have something for you.
Story Is Connection (SIC) Artistic Director, Catherine Simmonds OAM worked with a group of seven international students throughout the 2021 lockdowns to create the monologues in the film Many Ends Now Try Again Life (What is Mental anyway?).
This film screening will be followed by Q&A led by SIC Managing Director, Feifei Liao to delve further into the thoughts and feelings behind the work. SIC mobilises international students to connect to their own stories, to each other and to the wider community. It’s about inspiring new understandings beyond prejudice, stimulating a richer cultural texture.
