Friday Night Social: General Feelings Sound System

  • Science Gallery Melbourne The University of Melbourne Parkville, VIC, 3010 Australia (map)

The gallery comes alive with pressure, pulse and shared energy for a night of live performances curated by General Feelings Sound System.

Bass is a beckoning force. It draws us in – pulling our bodies towards the music. Perceptible through to your very core, the vibrations are felt rather than heard, compelling us to move.

A night of live performances curated by General Feelings Sound System – best known for their epic DIY dub sound system and forward-thinking line-ups – the gallery will transform into a collective beat. Expect the floors and walls to resonate with vibrational experiences.

Live musical performances by JUPiTA and Melquiades accompanied by Sam Trolland’s kinetic projections, with more to be announced. In a world of static, follow the frequency to the gallery.

Sensory note:  Specific areas of the venue may contain loud noise and vibration. If you have questions, event signage and staff will be able to provide more information on the night.

Science Gallery Melbourne’s Friday Night Socials are free parties where you can explore the latest exhibition against a backdrop of immersive performance acts and live DJ sets. Food and drinks are available for purchase.

Focusing on interactive games, play and creative technologies, the DISTRACTION exhibition explores the ways we might harness the cacophony of digital content and find meaning within it.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS

General Feelings Sound System (Dr Lucrecia Quintanilla)’s research focuses on various approaches of sound and amplification. She has constructed a sound system to create experimental spaces for culture, multiplicity, respite, dancing, music and sound.

The General Feelings Sound System doesn’t prescribe to a single sound, and has been used to amplify many community events in and around Naarm (Melbourne) since 2014 as the first woman-led sound system in Australia.

JUPiTA is a Naarm-based DJ, producer, and songwriter known for expansive, genre-fluid sets that interweave reggaeton, Latin club, drum and bass, R&B, and dance into a distinctive sonic blend. Rooted in her Chilean heritage, her practice centres on energy-building and storytelling, crafting immersive dancefloor experiences that celebrate culture, connection, and collective release.
