TIME TO X

David Hochgatterer

How can we visualise time in a way we can understand?

It’s hard to imagine more than the three dimensions we’re used to living in. This work explores the concept of four dimensional spacetime, transforming the fourth dimension, time, into the spatial expanse you see before you.

‘Time is what keeps everything from happening at once.’

Breaking down this spoken sentence into fragments, individually played from 96 speakers, you control what you hear with your movement – you can move forward, backwards or even stop in time. Lean in, ear to the wall, and let time stretch to your own measure.

Will you listen to everything at once, or take it one fragment at a time?

Switching between interactive and narrative forms of media arts, their work focuses on scientific concepts, communicated in an aesthetic way in order to trigger comprehension and provoke philosophic deliberations.
